In Michigan, movement is part of our story. Generations have built things here that carry people forward — engines designed for the long road, communities shaped around the work of getting somewhere together. That imagery helps describe who we are.

Mission Driven Churches is not simply an association you join. It is a network built for movement — a community of churches committed to helping one another move toward greater faithfulness, deeper discipleship, and tangible gospel impact in the places we serve.

Our name reflects both our geography and our calling. Driven speaks to direction, purpose, momentum. Churches are not meant to idle. They are meant to move — toward people, toward transformation, toward the work God has already begun in their communities.
Our origins are rooted in the American Baptist Churches of Michigan. That heritage shaped our theological convictions, our commitment to local church freedom, and our belief that ministry is stronger when it is shared. We carry that story with gratitude. Mission Driven Churches represents the next expression of that same impulse — not a departure from our past, but a reframing of how we travel into the future.

Every church is on a journey. Some are accelerating into new opportunities. Some are navigating unexpected turns. Others are stalled, searching for clarity about what comes next. MDC exists not to control the vehicle, but to travel alongside — offering guidance, encouragement, resources, and the confidence that no one is driving alone.

We think about our work in the language of movement. Helping leaders rediscover direction. Helping congregations find traction. Creating pathways for collaboration. Removing barriers that keep churches from moving forward. The goal is not speed for its own sake, but faithful progress — making more and better followers of Jesus Christ, together.

What Makes MDC Different
Mission Driven Churches functions less like an institution and more like a shared road. Churches remain locally led and contextually distinct yet connected through common purpose. We learn from one another, support one another, and sometimes carry one another when the road becomes difficult.
